Today in a line up at a grocery store the women in front of me who looked a little disheaveled had an order that came to $19.01. The cashier asked her if she had a penny she didn't, then she asked her if she had a nickle she didn't. I said "I have a penny" and grabbed one from my wallet and gave it to the cashier. The shopper proceeded to pick up her bags and walk away. Suddenly she turned on her heal, walked right up to me, smiled broadly and said "thank you".
Interestingly......... the reaction was way out of proportion to the value of a penny. I guess maybe......the reaction was not to the penny but to the fact I noticed her in the first place.
