Compassion, Kids, & Proof You Can Have Fun & Win Without Winning

Our baseball season for this year has come to an end. For the season the kids ended up in 3rd place. For the playoffs last place, yet I have never seen a happier crew than those kids tonight. The game was very close and they had lots of exciting plays, there were home runs and steals to home. It seemed that every kid on both teams had a shining moment.

My favorite moment and my won-a-day for the day was seeing a 10 year old girl console my son when he felt really bad and was crying on the bench after striking out. She walked right over to him on the bench, leaned over, put her arm around him with a little pat on the back and very quietly said "are you ok", "you know everyone strikes out sometimes". I wish I could describe it in words that could really capture the moment, for me, that moment sums up the spirit of the team this year. (ps. He had two amazing hits in the later innings)

My won-a-day today was all about kids. Kids laughing with delight as they went in and out of a sprinkler. Kids playing their last baseball game of the season with such high spirits and so much positive feedback from the couches and parents. Great Kid Day!

Hmm, maybe compassion could be this week's virtue? What a sweet little girl!

I love it, this weeks virtue is compassion. We did do that one on April 17th, but we will look at some different perspectives.

Compassion - a deep awareness of and sympathy for another's suffering the humane quality of understanding the suffering of others and wanting to do something about it

The only thing I'd like to add to that definition is not just wanting to do something about it but also if you can, while maintaining compassion for yourself & others, taking action.
