Baseball tonight, I really paid attention to the interaction of the kids tonight and enjoyed listening to them. What a crew, there is the supportive one who finds something positive to say at every moment of the game to every player in the game. The stoic ones who even after being hit by very hard balls manage to keep it together enough to stay in the game. The little one who arrived thinking he wouldn't make it through the game due to some very extensive dental surgery who realized the team would have to forfeit if he left and stayed to the end. The one who tries so hard and worries so much that he might disappoint his team mates. The one who isn't very good yet and says "don't throw it to me, throw it to someone who can catch" with a big smile and then beamed after he made a great play in the outfield and got a hit that brought home a run.
Then of course there is mine, the perfectionist who is so hard on himself and so gentle with everyone else. His entire being shone tonight after catching an out, making a play to first that got an out, hitting and making it to base every at bat, and pitching the final inning three up, three down to win the game. Watching them together and listening to them makes me think all is well. These wonderful caring children are our future.
